PETERTIDE
St. Peter's Day is our Patronal Festival – the time we remember our patron saint. It has traditionally been an opportunity to celebrate the life of the local church and to throw its doors open to the people it's there to serve. Which is exactly what we intend to do. There is a full programme; we need to tell everyone about it and make Saturday a day of fun and hospitality for all around us; then on Sunday we celebrate our faith together (with the help of our preacher, Stephen Heap, Chaplain to The University of Bedfordshire), and enjoy each other's company (hopefully) in the Rectory garden.
June 28th and 29th
The group ‘in charge of ' organizing the celebrations for our Patronal Festival continues to meet and discuss plans for the weekend, so please remember them in your prayers.
We would be most grateful for volunteers to help us with refreshments and stewarding . We would also like offers of help with moving furniture!
Please consider putting your name down to help for one hour at the least so that St. Peter's can be seen to be a community working together to welcome everyone who wishes to step inside.
On the Thursday and Friday evenings we are hosting concerts, on the Saturday we open our doors to the wider community to show people what St. Peter's does. There will be displays of flowers and church vestments with explanations of the significance of the different styles and colours. We hope to have some old photographs of St. Peter's showing people and events past and present.
Tours of the bell tower proved popular last year so these will be repeated with fewer folk in each group.
We have a children's entertainer who will put on two shows on Saturday. She is a member of the Magic Circle and also a fire-eater, although we are not expecting her to be demonstrating this particular skill in the church!
On the Sunday we will be holding our own ‘family' celebrations and hope to have the church open for visitors in the afternoon.
