The Film Club of St Peter de Merton with St Cuthbert, Bedford
Have you ever been to the cinema and wanted to
talk to someone after the film about what it meant?
What you liked?
What was your favourite part?
Who was your favourite character?
What did that mean?
St Peter's Film Club meets once a month to view
films chosen by you, the audience. So if you have a
favourite film or one that you would love to watch with
others then come along. We have the opportunity to
discuss the film after over nibbles and a glass of wine.
(You don't get that at the cinema!)
The films range from black and white classics to
cutting edge animation to world cinema.
We meet in the chapter house where the films are
Projected onto the wall giving a real sense of cinema.
Why not look at the programme, come along to join us – a great way to spend an evening in the company of
friends with a similar interest.

“The Lives of Others” (2006)
Director: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
A study in the workings of an authoritarian regime – East Germany - and the methods of its security police, the Stasi, set in 1984. It also documents the doubts that emerge in the mind of the interrogator Wielser (Ulrich Muher). The final scenes in the film are an epilogue set in 1992 after the fall of the Berlin Wall to disclose the shallowness and self-deception of the old regime. The film is full of tension and atmosphere, and won an Oscar as Best Foreign Film in 2007 and many other international awards.
